The Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia campus in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is renowned for its displays of world arts and cultures, in particular works by First Nation band governments of the Pacific Northwest.
I attended the opening of the new Gallery of Northwest Coast Masterworks. There was free admission for this event so of course I went. While I appreciated the free admission the line up to get in the new gallery of the inaugural exhibition, In a Different Light: Reflecting on Northwest Coast Art was so long, I was unable to get in a timely manner. I was also able to enjoy and Hear musical performances from DJ Kookum, contemporary cellist Cris Derksen, DJ O Show . the line up for a glass of wine was too long as well, so I didn’t imbibe on this occasion.

Did you know: MOA houses 38,000 ethnographic objects, as well as 535,000 archaeological objects in its building alone.

I definitely want to go back, I think this is one place that is worth the price of admission.

Dance of Time

For the first time in Canada, the bronze sculpture Dance of Time, displayed in outdoors at West Hastings and Hornby street.

Chali-Rosso Art Gallery is lending the piece, which itself is on loan from The Stratton Institute. The Institute boasts the world’s largest collection of Dalí sculptures. Here is an original large scale, 7-foot Salvador Dali bronze sculpture titled Dance of Time . Amazing !

Conceived in 1979 and first cast in 1984, the Dance of Time I sculpture has previously exhibited in Paris, Marseille, Shanghai, and Beverly Hills.

Be sure to check out the Chali-Rosso Art Gallery, just a few steps away from the Salvidor Dali sculpture, the art gallery features 22 other Dali sculptures and over 200 graphic works by European Masters: Dali, Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miro and others. The exhibition is free to the public, but they are accepting donations on behalf of Arts Umbrella. Gallery Hours: 10 – 6 pm every day, 12 – 5 pm on Sundays.
