The Telephone Salesman

The Telephone Salesman

Walking Down Columbia Street in New West Minster on the way to Music by the River New Westminster I came across this very nice Photography Art Piece on the side of a building . It’s called The Telephone Salesman Check out the Downtown New Westminster website for more information about this piece and where more can be found. “The Telephone Salesman presents a melancholic scene in which a salesman has amassed a mysterious accumulation of rotary phones in his home. Drawing upon a range of references from the histories of photography and film, the image seduces the viewer with a cinematic, psychological portrait of an absent subject. View this piece at 350 Columbia Street in Downtown New West.”

WOW Westminster

WOW Westminster

WOW Westminster
Artist: José Resende (b.1945, Brazil),

I went down to the Westminster Pier Park on Thursday night, July 20, 2017 to attend the Music by the River, see my post on my main blog here: Music by the River and while there I had a little visit with one of Vancouver’s Biennale Public Art Displays at the east side Westminster Pier Park in New Westminster, British Columbia. It’s called ” WOW Westminster. it’s an impressive sculpture made out of four forty-foot shipping containers made to form a ” W “.

Quote…from the Biennale website:
“Resende’s WOW WESTMINSTER is not only an interpretation of the economic activity of the Fraser River and the flow of goods through trains, ships and trucks: it’s also about capturing the energy and history of this transportation hub, the transformation of the City of New Westminster and its waterfront into a recreational arts and cultural playground.”

Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre

Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre

The Roundhouse is a busy community and recreational centre, a vibrant arts centre, and a historic Vancouver landmark. I had a look at some of the art work on display in the hallways. the actual gallery was closed today setting up for a new display. I will be back soon to check that out.

Giant Laughing Statues English Bay

Giant Laughing Statues English Bay

First installed in 2009 as part of the Vancouver Biennale These 14 giant, three-metre-tall statues, sculptured, by Chinese artist Yue Minjun, are located in a small park called Morton Park,at Davie and Denman right next to English Bay. They are very popular and I really enjoy watching the kids and tourists enjoy them, especially I noticed people love to mimic the expressions and stance of the statues for a picture.
